Minimum physical-time delta between normally generated epochs.
A delta of 2 leaves one complete physical epoch for state machines that need to split an existing epoch interval later. With the default 1-second barrier interval, normally generated epochs are about 1000 physical ticks apart and therefore leave about 999 intermediate epochs.
